CHIANG MAI, Chiang Mai Zoo has organized activities to cool down all its animals, spraying mist and providing cool treats. With the northern region and Chiang Mai province experiencing temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for a week, animals, especially those with thick fur, are affected similarly to humans. Therefore, today, Chiang Mai Zoo has arranged cooling activities for its animals. Trucks have been used to spray water in the morning and afternoon to alleviate the heat in their respective habitats. Additionally, within the exhibition areas, sprinklers have been installed to cool the animals, including African animals, white lions, Asian elephants, and small-clawed otters. The zoo staff has also provided frozen treats made from fruits and other refreshments. The zoo director Wutthichai Muangman emphasized that the current weather conditions, coupled with smog and PM2.5 pollution, have raised concerns for the animals in the zoo. Therefore, the zoo has intensified efforts to closely monitor and cool down the animals in all zones of the Chiang Mai Zoo by increasing the frequency of spraying to reduce the high temperatures and dust levels.
