Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai police arrested a drug trafficking suspect in a longan orchard after he drove through a cordon and crashed into a police car and two locals' cars, damaging them, at the Juvenile Court intersection. The incident occurred on the night of July 16. After the incident, the white pickup truck used in the incident was found abandoned in Tha Sala Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District. Last night, Chiang Mai City Police investigators used an arrest warrant to track down a nd arrest Mr. Tontakan, 27, while he was hiding in a longan orchard hut in San Pa Tong District. The case was a result of the previous investigation by the Chang Phueak Police Narcotics Suppression Unit, which had expanded the investigation into the arrest of a small-time dealer with 30 methamphetamine pills. The suspect implicated Mr. Tontakan in the drug case. The police therefore planned to purchase drugs from Mr. Tontakan by transferring 700 baht to Mr. Tontakan's account and made an appointment with the undercover agent to receive the drugs at the Big C Don Chan roundabout. On the night of July 16, 2014, Mr. Tontakan drove a white pickup truck to the undercover agent's meeting point, but he escaped and broke through a checkpoint and chased after a police car. Initial searches of the suspect's house found another 400 methamphetamine pills. The police are pressing charges of evading arrest and damaging another person's property and being a drug dealer.
