Ex-teacher gets P100-K ‘centenary’ bonus

The national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has awarded a PHP100,000 cash grant to a former teacher who recently turned 100. The centenarian, Ma. Luisa Consolacion Magbanua, of Purok Fuente, Barangay Bagacay in this capital city, got the centenary award on Wednesday, said Lilibeth Filipinas, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief. Filipinas told the Philippine News Agency on Thursday that Magbanua is the 2nd centenarian to receive the award this year and the 26th since 2017. Mica Temple of the DSWD-Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) office, George Villamor and Enriquita Alcaide of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, and Yanie Lecciones, a social worker of CSWDO, handed over the award to Magbanua at her residence. Magbanua is a retired teacher at the St. Paul University-Dumaguete and turned 100 last Aug. 25. Filipinas said Magbanua also qualifies for the PHP50,000 award from the city government and PHP100,000 from the provincial governme nt provided the processes for requirements are completed. She said the recipients of the centenary awards in the city included one in 2017, 2018, and 2019; 5 in 2020; 8 in 2021; 4 in 2022 and 2023; and two in 2024. Source: Philippines News agency
